- Between 1993 and 2001, the proportion of students who binge drink three or more times in within a two week timeframe rose 16%.
- Moderate use of alcohol has been defined as 1-2 drinks per day; interest in "moderate" drinking is underscored by the research showing beneficial effects of moderate drinking on cardiovascular function, and perhaps on the prevention of occlusive (clot-related) strokes.
