The (DHSS) has determined that alcohol is the most abused drug in the United States; this could be due to alcohol being easy to access and because drinking is socially acceptable in this country.
Over time, excessive alcohol use can lead to the development of chronic diseases, neurological impairments and social problems. These include but are not limited to: Neurological problems, including dementia, stroke and neuropathy.
The risk of youth experiencing alcohol associated problems is greater for those who binge drink than for those who do not binge drink.
It has been reported that between 48 and 64 percent of people who die in fires have blood alcohol levels that are indicative of intoxication.
