In 2004, an estimated 22.5 million Americans aged 12 or older needed treatment for substance abuse and addiction (alcohol or illicit drugs). Of these, a mere 3.8 million people received it.
Excessive alcohol use has immediate effects that increase the risk of many harmful health conditions.
