The World Health Organization estimates that about 76 million people throughout the world suffer from alcohol-related disorders.
According to the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse, it was determined that college students were more likely to intervene in a drunk-driving situation if they knew and liked the driver, but only if the driver was evaluated to be dangerous and they felt that they would be able to help. Students were less likely to intervene when they were drunk themselves, or when they were afraid of how their intervention would affect their relationship with their peers.
Students spend .5 billion each year on alcohol. This is more than they spend on sodas, tea, coffee or books combined.
