  • Alcohol oxidizes when it gets into the human system; this process occurs at the rate of an ounce in two or three hours. For 100-proof whisky, which is up to fifty per cent alcohol, this would mean that 8 ounces of whisky would be gone from the body in less than 12 hours; most of the alcohol would be breathed away, but some of it would be lost through sweat or urine.
  • Alcohol and caffeine are the two most widely abused substances in the world. Alcohol is the more serious addiction due to alcohol-related accidents and incidents.
  • Several different studies have shown that alcohol use by youth increases the risk of both fatal and nonfatal injuries, particularly as related to automobile accidents; other consequences of youth alcohol use includes an increased risky sexual behaviors, poor school performance, and an increased risk of both suicide and homicide.
  • Driver's license suspension and license revocation seem to be the most effective deterrents among the general driving population; a recent government study concluded that the most effective means for reducing the rate recidivism for driving under the influence of alcohol (DWI, DUI) and crashes was a combination of license suspension and interventions such as education, counseling, and some follow-up.
