  • Underage drinking plays a role in risky sexual activity. People do things when they are under the influence of alcohol-even a small amount-that they would not do when they are sober, including having sex even when they didn't want to and had not planned to do so. This behavior can increase the chance of teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS.
  • One ounce of alcohol contains the same amount of calories as a baked potato or a glass of whole milk, but the liquor provides no nutritional value in comparison.
  • Alcohol intoxication increases risk of certain cancers, stroke, and liver diseases, especially when excessive amounts of alcohol are consumed over extended periods of time.
  • Alcohol is broken down by the liver at the rate of approximately one unit per hour (a pint of normal strength beer being two units). As a result, it is possible to still be under the influence of alcohol the following morning.
